The contents of a TB-BW-10 vial present a low chemical hazard. The practical hazards in handling are broken glass and sharps from transfer devices. Always follow your institution’s environmental health and safety (EHS) procedures. Where they differ from this guidance, they take precedence.
1. Personal protective equipment
Gloves and safety glasses are appropriate for routine handling. Benzyl alcohol at 0.9% may cause mild eye irritation on direct contact; rinse with water.
2. Spills and breakage
- Do not pick up broken glass by hand. Use tongs, a brush and dustpan, or a scoop.
- Absorb liquid with paper towels or a spill pad.
- Wipe the area with water, then your laboratory’s standard surface disinfectant.
- Place glass in a broken-glass or sharps container.
3. Disposal
- Transfer devices: dispose of needles immediately into a puncture-resistant sharps container. Do not recap.
- Vials: dispose of as laboratory glass according to your institution’s rules.
- Unused contents: dispose of according to institutional and local requirements for aqueous laboratory waste.
4. Safety data
